I just want to say thank you to everyone who follows my site. I thought I would be writing more, but I didn’t know about what yet. I never dreamed there would be any interest, but then I started doing the photo challenges.  I’ve met some wonderful people on here that are too many to mention, but know that even though I might only be on here  once or twice a week I try to visit you all and enjoy reading your blogs and seeing the wonderful pictures I can only aspire too. Thank you

Daily Prompt Pingback: Flight Attendant Decree

I thought I would take a look at the Daily Prompt today and saw one I think everyone who uses the convenience of flying the skies should also read as well. Most passengers appreciate the flight attendant and show it by responding politely, but I am surprised by how rude some passengers can be. This post says it all from a gracious retired flight attendant.

Five Photos, Five Stories – Day Three – Power Rangers

This is my third post for the Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge sent to me by Doug Warren. When I first started to blog in  Blogging 101 class, I was not sure what I wanted to blog about. His site gave me inspiration for when I retire in a few years. This challenge is hard for me since I am not a writer, so this one is a silly story.

The Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge rules require you to post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or simply a short paragraph – it’s entirely up to you. Then each day, nominate another blogger to carry on this challenge. Accepting the challenge is entirely up to the person nominated, it is not a command. And actually everyone can join in. So feel free to if you like the idea.

super herosScene: Medical school.

Students thought is was a normal day.  Down in the basement, the anatomy lab looked normal. The cadavers where there for study along with the student’s books for backup–but then it started to get extremely cold.  On other floors students said the rooms got cold and there were strange noises in the ceilings. All of a sudden the lights went out. Things started to disappear.   Security was short staffed that day and the campus was too big to search by themselves; they made the call to the Power Rangers. The Rangers moved quickly through the school looking for the culprit. They followed the noise down to the basement. Hearing a hissing sound, they saw that the heat cable was broken. They found hats, gloves, and scarves along the floor. The trail continued to the crematory. The door was slightly opened. The noises were louder in there. They opened the door with a thud and through the eerie light of the fire they started to laugh. The room was full of squirrels staying warm by the fire.

Thanks for stopping by.

I would like to nominate Michael Lai of retireediary. He has a wonderful site and many photos of his travels.  Accepting the challenge is entirely up to the person nominated, it is not a command. And actually everyone can join in. So feel free to if you like the idea.

I am actually changing my challenge, due to my vacation starting. Hope you enjoyed the tree days that I did.

Plug in to Social Networks OR NOT

Today’s assignment: if you’re active on a social network, set up Publicize to link the account to your blog or add a widget highlighting your profile. If you’re not, explore your social options to see whether one might be helpful.

To link to WordPress OR NOT.  Who knows.

I was actually considering linking my twitter to WordPress until I had my first bad experience with Twitter last week.

I work at one of those places that you do have to worry about what you say or what ‘brand’ you are talking about. Since I am proud of where I work and what I do, I sent out a tweet about a news press release that was met by, I guess those people that like to get you going, so to speak.  I tweeted additional information only to be met with childish responses referring to quackery. Oh no–don’t go there please. When I tweeted I was done with the tread, the response was “I lost!”   Lost? I didn’t know it was a competition. Next time, if there is one, I’ll know better than to respond to a person who obviously wants a feud  and no enlightenment.

So, until I retire, hopefully in 2-3 years, I wont’ be connecting my social media with Twitter. I did notice that once you do, people have access to your blog. No, I don’t want that yet. I’m not there for followers. I follow 230 people or companies, and have only tweeted 476 times. I will however, post my name here. @julialwavesHi2. Feel free to join my hardly ever tweet list.

Funny story about the name I picked. “Julia” anything is always taken. I like the ocean [waves] although I am not a beach person. Waves encompasses both the ocean waves and waving Hi.  I had to delete my first tweet name, hence the 2. [ Julia L waves HI 2]. That’s not the funny part. My first twitter name had waves45 in it. Someone asked me if I was ‘IN’ the Army waves during the war, because of the 45. I had to confess, no, I was 45 years old at the time I decided on the name.

Well, that’s it. How did you decide to link your social media with WordPress?

Thanks for stopping by.

New Skin

New Skin In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “New Skin.”

I could think of a lot of people I think I would like to trade palaces with, but the prompt also said “species.” My first thought was my dog. I’d love to know what they think when playing, do they like their food, do they like playing with other dogs or going to walks in the park? Then I thought of other dogs. I would like to be a seeing eye dog for a child.

I would like to go through the training and then get placed with a child that of course needs me, but we love me to pieces too. Here is one link to the history of service dogs.

What is Nurturing Thursday, you ask?

In this amazingly competitive society of ours, how many of us truly feel good about ourselves? How often do we extend to ourselves … the same courtesies, considerations, nurturing, forgiveness and understanding we would a loved one, a friend, or even a stranger?

Our culture tells us we need to be special and above average to feel good about ourselves. Yet, it is not possible for all of us to be above…

Yellow – As a forgotten holiday color.

Yellow
One of the daily post suggested pictures of Yellow to show other colors during the Holiday. My choices just popped out. It just took this long to get back to posting.  Here are my two photos. The picture on the right is our a rendition of our college flame. The inside is red. The other of course is a local public library.yellowflame

Changed My Theme

After researching the the 10/20 theme, I picked this theme because I didn’t like how the 10/20 divided up to another page with “continue reading.” There were a lot of comments about how to change the php, which I hadn’t done since the library MOOC, but also, people noted that if the theme was upgraded it didn’t keep the change you made. I realize one person was using a copy of the theme so that worked for him. Anyway, I have not made personal changes to it yet. My blog title for the MOOC originally had a ship from a picture I took, hence Odyssey,cropped-ship3.jpg

I just have to figure out to or get a new one that will fit banner style. Of course I like this banner the greek building theme seems to go with the word Odyssey. Comment welcomed. ~Julia
