I think this was at the Alaska Raptor Center in Sitka. We didn’t have time to take the path.

Off-Season – Deadliest Catch

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Off-Season.”

While cursing in Alaska, when we to to Homer. We had to take pictures of the ships from the TV show “Deadliest Catch”  for my brother-in-law, who is a fan of the show. As reality shows go, this is by far the best. There is no prompting from the director for the waves to crash over the ship. Some conversation may be staged, but not those lines the crew have to pull and the crabs they catch.

Here are a few of the ships at the harbor while off season and getting repairs.

Vivid – Dance Mask

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Vivid.”

Taken before I really thought about centering  photos. I always thought it looked OK in the viewer, but now that I know better it is kind of sad. Still I like the bright orange of the mask.

3 Photos from “The Totem Heritage Center houses a priceless collection of 19th century totem poles and other carvings, retrieved in the 1970s from the Tlingit Indian village Island and from the Haida village of Old Kasaan, on Prince of Wales Island.”

Depth – Icy Strait Point, Alaska

Depth This weeks photo challenge.

iceberg

Icy Straight AK 1 Icy Strait Point is a new path for cruise ships. It is a leisurely cruise through marvelous scenery. When closer to the turn around point you can see small icebergs called bergy bit, less than 5 meters (15 feet).  Usually only one-tenth of an iceberg is above water.

The other picture has water flowing down the ridge.
